An impact-first approach seeking to improve the environmental and financial outcomes of Maine’s forests

The Maine Mountain Collaborative, New England Forestry Foundation, and Quantified Ventures have combined organizational expertise to develop and capitalize an impact-first investment vehicle that seeks to blend $90MM+ of public, private, and philanthropic capital to acquire and manage 100,000+ acres of Maine forests with the goal of improved environmental and financial outcomes.

Exemplary Forestry Management (EFM) is the non-profit entity established to manage the forestland investments. We are working to:

  • Build a credible conservation investor for Exemplary Forestry

  • Provide a model to increase ecological, social, and environmental benefit of forests and woodlands

Forestland Investments

Scammon Ridge Headwaters LLC (SRH) is a single-property investment fund managed by Exemplary Forestry Management that owns the 3,000-acre Scammon Ridge Headwaters property in Greenville, Maine. It is the first forestland investment of the Exemplary Forestry Investment Fund.

Exemplary Forestry Management (EFM) works in the unceded homeland of the Wabanaki – People of the Dawnland. The Wabanaki are Abenaki, Mi’kmaq Nation, Houlton Band of Maliseet Indians, Passamaquoddy Tribe (Sipayik and Motahkomikuk Communities), and Penobscot Nation.

EFM staff, board, and investors are working to support Wabanaki sovereignty, land return, and land access in what is now called Maine. As we strive to learn the history of Wabanaki People and the ongoing impacts of colonialism we encourage others to learn and support these efforts financially and otherwise.

Wabanaki Alliance

The Wabanaki Alliance was formed to educate people of Maine about the need for securing sovereignty of the tribes in Maine.

First Light

First Light is a bridge between conservation organizations and Penobscot, Passamaquoddy, Maliseet, and Mi’kmaq Communities who seek to expand Wabanaki stewardship of land.

Wabanaki Public Health
& Wellness

Wabanaki Public Health & Wellness serves four federally recognized tribes located in five communities. Services are available to community members living on and off-reservation across the state of Maine.

Bomazeen Land Trust

Bomazeen Land Trust enables the Abenaki/ Wabanaki people to renew and resume their land caretaking and stewardship roles for lands and waters with historical, spiritual, and ecological significance to the Abenaki/Wabanaki people.
